Exotic Beers
First tried this Trappist beer, Chimay, last friday. And all of places, Bukit Timah Hawker Centre. Already extreme 'unclish' behaviour, imagine if we managed to get the peanuts? Fast forward 30 yrs, it seems like the exact scene. Anyways it was an impromptu affair, had dinner at the usual stretch, someone mentioned beer and the first person to come to your mind? He suggested the place and we had a pleasant discovery. The ordinary looking drink stall camouflaged perfectly into the seas of stalls in a hawker centre, at first look. But look again closely, you will see the real uncle staring at you, touting. And a deeper look, you see beers with names you could barely pronounce, or never encountered before. A wide variety, definitely less than the local Belgian restaurants import, but impressive. Most importantly, it captures the attention for the chaps who demands renewal from drinking the usual stuff. The downside is that this uncle has a monopoly on these beers, apparently he was disturbed when we asked for a discount. The conclusion? The new stuff is pretty decent, if not better than the usual(grass is always greener eh?). I still pledge loyalty to Carona, erdinger and VB but one of these days, I will start to stock up these unique beers, of course sharing it with Dad. and regardless of how retarded it looks to drink beer in a hawker centre, guess we will be around there more often ya? mikes....
